Video Preliminary
Video Preliminary Research:
Before I did my own storyboard, I researched other storyboards to see the typical characteristics of storyboards and the layout.
Shot List:
Match on Action
Step Outline:
Step 1 - The viewer see's a teenage girl walking up the stairs and through a corridor. The viewer sees her reaching out for the door handle, knocking on the door and opening it. She is confronted by Mrs Smith.
Step 2 - Mrs Smith is sat down in the room and Sam sits down near her. Dialogue is exchanged between Sam and Mrs Smith, as Mrs Smith asks whether Sam knows why she's been asked to come and see her.
Step 3 - Expressionless, Sam says no, and Mrs Smith asks Sam if she's sure she can't think of anything. With attitude Sam replies saying 'nope, nothing'. Mrs Smith tells her that her hair isn't appropriate for school and Sam says that her hair doesn't affect her education. Mrs Smith tells her that it's not a part of school rules & Sam stands up, tells Mrs Smith that it's pathetic and walks out.

Shoot Notes/Timetable
The filming went well but definitely could have been better.
The main problem with filming was the shots weren't accurate enough, and the video would have looked better if the filming was more accurate.
Video Evaluation:
I worked as a group for my Prelim video. We worked as a group of 3 so came up with the idea for the video together. I originally had bright purple hair, so I became the idea for the video of a student going against the school rules for appropriate hair colour. Using this idea, we came up with a script and on my own I made my own storyboard. We had to take in to consideration the criteria for our prelim such as having a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character and exchanging a couple of lines of dialogue.
The video also had to demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule. We filmed all the shots on the same day using a tripod and the school setting. However, when we came to edit the prelim we encountered a few problems. First off, some of the shots weren't as good as they could have been as the camera should have been filming the characters face and not the mid-body so when we edited the clip, we had to try and solve this issue, rather than re-filming. We had problems with the editing software, in which clips were dissapearing and not working as they should have been so it took us longer than it should have to edit our prelim, as we had to work around this problem. We did have a 180-degree shot but the main clip showing this seemed to have dissapeared, and re-filming at a later date would have shown differences in the time period of the two shots, so we have tried to show all the shots in the criteria as well as we could in our prelim.
We didn't use backing music in our prelim, as I decided this wouldn't have worked very well with our video and could be distracting from the dialogue. Overall, I think our prelim was a good attempt but improvements could have definitely been made, but next time I will keep these things in mind and during the prelim, I have learnt what works and what doesn't so it has been very helpful. Next time I will make sure all shots are there after filming so that this doesn't happen again and make sure the shots are filmed at the correct level. I will also find music appropriate to the videos topic and audience.

Research
As part of my research, I have chosen Glamour magazine to look at. We can see by the selling line that the target audience of this magazine is women. The colour scheme has been considered for the magazine and the image has pink hues along with pink background and pink font colours. Jessie J is a big female role model so having her on the magazine cover is a good marketing ploy. Also the feature article is Jessie J talking about how she deals with problems which women might be able to relate to. Some of the cover lines have fashion looks, gossip and confidence tips which appeal to the target audience.
I have then looked at the contents page of an older issue of Glamour Magazine, as I couldn't find one for the issue I did the front cover on. There is no title telling the reader that this is the contents page but it can be clearly seen as the index with the page numbers are listed effectively to the reader. On this contents page we have a preview image of what's inside the magazine, the Masthead is used again to show the reader they are still reading Glamour. The needs of the target audience have been met by this table of contents. It's a style issue and appeals to the female audience with the pink colours and also the colour scheme. The image of Emma Watson appeals to the target audience as she's a female role model.
Planning
As part of my planning, I have sketched out plans of my front cover and table of contents for my magazine. I have thought about the target audience of my Sixth Form School magazine in my sketches and tried to show this.

Print Evaluation:
For my print I worked alone and started by looking at the conventions of a magazine similar to the target audience I wanted to aim for. My aim was for a sixth form magazine, aimed at 16-18 year olds. I looked at the codes and conventions of Glamour Magazine, where I decided to use lots of these features for my own magazine cover because they were effective at drawing in the attention of the reader.
Glamour magazine has a monthly theme as shown with Jessie J and the colour of the magazine being rosy pink. I decided to use a theme for my magazine, but I thought relating the theme to the month would be a good idea, especially for my target audience. I used Halloween for my theme so the colours surrounding my magazine were orange and black. This was effective for my magazine and gave me a starting point. Like Glamour Magazine, I used a selling point for my magazine underneath the Masthead which was 'Your No.1 Student Mag!'. Using the word 'Your' makes it more personal to the reader and sounds like it's talking directly to them, and this draws the reader in. I have also used direct mode of address, like in Glamour with the model looking at the reader. I also used coverlines that would be appropriate for my target audience of students. I had the price clearly shown to the reader too.
Overall I think my magazine cover was very effective and appropriate to the needs of the target audience.
For my contents page I looked at another issue of Glamour Magazine and used the contents page as a basis for my own. I decided to have a set colour scheme, and so I used the same colour scheme as I used on my front cover, to follow on the Halloween theme. I put the date on the contents page so it's easy for the reader to see what issue this is. I used page numbers in bold and different colours for the title of each page for variation.
I think my contents page also met the needs of the target audience, but if I was to improve my contents page I could have added a picture as a feature from one of the pages to show a sneak preview of them.
