Research - Openings (Certification)

Film Openings:

I am looking at planning and producing the opening of a film, including the titles aimed at a 15 Certificate Audience. I am going to look at film openings from Genres - Thriller, Rom-Com and Horror and decide on a genre and the needs of my target audience.

15 Certificate films aren't allowed to be shown to anyone under the age of 15. Anything with a 15 Certificate can have:
- Strong Violence
- Frequent Strong language
- Portrayals of sexual activity
- Strong verbal references to sex
- Sexual nudity
- Brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence
- Discriminatory language or behaviour
- Drug taking

The guidelines from the BBFC spilt a rating into nine main categories of which will determine the films rating. The guidelines of a age 15 film are

Discrimination
Must not show discriminating behaviour or language

Drugs
May be shown in the film but must not encourage miss use of drugs, miss use of solvents are unlikely to be shown in an age 15.

Horror
Strong threats and menace is allowed, unless sadistic or sexualised.

Imitable Behaviour
Dangerous behaviour should not be dwelled on and not shown in detail which could be copied, easily accessed weapons should not be a main feature.

Language
Frequent use of strong language (such as 'fuck'). Stronger terms may be acceptable if justified by context. Aggressive and repeatable use of language may not be acceptable.

Sex
May be portrayed without strong detail, strong verbal references to sexual behaviour are acceptable if justified. Purpose of sexual arousal will not most likely be acceptable.

Theme
No theme is prohibited provided the treatment is age 15.

Violence
Violence is acceptable but not if dwelled on for infliction of pain. Strong images are unlikely to be accepted, saddistic and secxual violence is also unlikely to be accepted. There may be verbal reference to sexual violence but must be justified well by contextual significance.
